Prediction and control of the tokamak density limit
Maris, A.D.
My doctoral thesis, submitted to the MIT Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering in February 2026, advised by Cristina Rea, Robert Granetz, and Earl Marmar.
It brings together the multi-machine density limit database, the interpretable machine learning analysis that identified the edge collisionality boundary, and the DIII-D experiments demonstrating real-time avoidance by feedback on machine-learned risk metrics.
